Attention to the resurgence of the popular Wakasu & Koichi in 2019

Close-up of Ito Wakatsuki and Suzuki Junichi is because they are already star artists who represent Japanese art, and of course there will be more buzz in 2019. The grounds to say so are the special exhibition “The Genealogy of Ecstasy Edo Painting Miracle World” held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum from February 9 (Sat) to April 7 (Sun), 2019.

The mysterious paintings and painters introduced in 1970's book “The Genealogy of Wonders” by the art historian Tsuji Nobuo are now leaders in the Japanese art boom. Their representative painters, Wakatsuki and Koichi, are sure to get attention again with the special exhibition! You can see the secrets of Wakasu & Yuichi's popular!

Before we introduce Wakasu & Koichi's works used in the calendar, let's introduce a brief profile of the two.

Ito Wakatsuki is born as the eldest son of a blue pottery shop located in the Kyoto and Sakai market in the middle of the Edo period, but he loves to draw, and he is more enthusiastic about sketching animals and plants around his family business, and masters drawing almost independently. In the late 30s, he handed over his family business to his brother and became a painter of great wishes. Soon after, he completed the masterpiece of Edo-painting, "Dai Kusai", and left many masterpieces of a wide variety of techniques, from works of high coloring to ink painting. The existence of Wakatsuki became known from the second half of Showa, and its popularity rose at every special exhibition, and at the “Wakasu” exhibition held in Paris this year (2018), “Iki-Tei” has a total of 33 widths It's been released for the first time in Europe, so we could have a large queue waiting for admission. It has become popular worldwide.

On the other hand, Suzuki Eiichi studied under the Edo period Edo period (Eridinpa) Sakai Hoji, and while possessing excellent drawing power, it is a dynamic called a vivid sense of color and eccentricity. An artist who left a work with a good composition. The style captures the hearts of foreign art lovers such as Fenollosa and Freere, and "The Suzuki Eiichi Edo-Ryo flagship" held at the Suntory Museum of Art in 2016, its appeal has become widely known, and now it is Wakasu It is rising rapidly as a rising star of Japanese art next to Japan. It is the number one of the artist who wants to hold it now.

Close up the points of the beautiful paradox of Wakatsuki & Yuichi

The cover of "Wakasu & Koichi Masterpiece Calendar" is based on the theme of cranes of the fortune, and the front is Wakatsuki's "Gunka scrap" and the back is Koichi's "Guntsuru folding screen". In each beautiful coloring, the charm of the strange and funny weirdness is transmitted somewhere.

And what I put on the calendar of each month is a number of masterpieces of Wakasu and Junichi who cut off the beauty of Japan's natural beauty, which changes with the passage of time, with a unique perspective of strangeness. Moreover, close-up with round and square windows, and cutting off only the subject matter, it highlights the most important part of the work.

The natural motifs drawn by the two are the essence of delicate beauty unique to Japan. You can feel the change of the season, and you will nourish the mind that keeps you busy. An appendix that is particular about this is not something that is quite common!

Wakatsuki 12 ・ January issue is with Wakatsuki & Keiichi calendar! Introduce points that you want to get Mayu's "Fujihana figure" (Hosomi Museum of Art). Yuichi's wisteria flower, which has drawn a bunch of images on the screen, is a masterpiece that combines natural beauty and decorativeness. It is believed to have influenced Art Nouveau.
