The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art, remodeled on March 29, 2019, has undergone a three-year refurbishment since 2016. We will report on the major changes in this renovation, together with the photos of the opening first day.

What is the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo?

Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum located in Koto Ward, Tokyo, on the north side of Kiba Park. Since its opening in 1995, it holds one of the nation's leading collections that allow an overview of Japanese postwar art. The collection exhibition room is on the first floor and the second floor up to the second floor, and is also one of the largest museums in Japan.

<< Highlight 1 >> Renewal of Signs and Fixtures

The first highlight is the new sign fixtures and sign plans. The design of the sign fixtures is done by architect Nagasaka Toru (schema architecture plan), and the sign plan is done by art director Yoshiaki Shirobe (Nihon Design Center Co., Ltd. Shirobe Design Research Institute).

The lower part of the fixtures used for displaying posters and information functions as a bench. It plays a role in creating a relaxing space like the continuation of a park.

In addition to the signature, pay attention to the limited time logo of the renewal and opening commemorative .

It is an abbreviation of the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Contemporary Art, and is a logo based on "more" to "MOT" to image positiveness and rise. The commemorative logo adds one more "plus" to the conventional logo. This is a request for the museum's activities to be more "plus" and more familiar.

The second highlight is the enhancement of facilities that are kind to anyone. Barrier-free improvement such as expansion of elevators in the exhibition room and expansion of multipurpose toilets. In addition, we have enhanced child-raising support facilities, such as the expansion of diaper changing tables and restaurants that offer free baby food.
