Specialized art museum that understands the goodness of Katsushika Hokusai well!
The world-renowned Ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai was born on September 23 in Takara 10 (1760) near home office sewage (now Hokusai Street). Then, until he dies at 90, he spends most of his time in Sumida ward while moving repeatedly. The "Sumida Hokusai Museum of Art" opened on November 22, 2016 in a place close to the ground.
The architect who designed the building was Kazuyo Senjima, who has earned a worldwide reputation. The cool outer wall of silver is cut into a sharp slit shape, and a novel and modern look from the viewpoint. This slit brings unique characteristics to the space inside the hotel. In addition, the structure that does not set the front so that you can approach from anywhere around is perfect for the concept of an art museum open to the area. On the third and fourth floors are the planning and permanent exhibition rooms where you can witness the many paintings and paintings of Hokusai's life. At the core of the exhibited works is Peter Morse's collection, the largest and largest personal collection of Hokusai in the West. Many of Hokusai's works, which are close to 600 points of Mr. Ueda, who were keen on collecting and researching, are attracting attention from around the world. "Sumida Hokusai Museum of Art" that is of no interest to art fans. We will introduce the charm along with the highlights of the temple here.
The biggest highlight is a large-scale "Sumida River Riganshi scenic figure scroll" discovered after 100 years
A work whose topic of the exhibition at the Opening Exhibition was a 7-meter-long autograph "Sumida River Rygashi Scenic Landscape Volute". This work, which Hokusai drew at the age of 46, is the forerunner to work hard on beautiful paintings with beautiful brushstrokes. However, it was leaked overseas, and the record sold at the national auction hall in France in 1905 (Doulow) in France was last unknown for a long time. After more than 100 years, it became famous in the "Sumida Hokusai Museum of Art" collection, and finally it started looking at the sun with the opening. I can not miss this work that speaks of the new charm of Hokusai.

You can see the sprouts of the beautiful brushstrokes in the part of Yu-ku.

Cover the masterpieces of Makie that raised the name of Hokusai!
Representative paintings of Hokusai, such as "Ryokan-ri", "Hokuno-no-ha Bridge Biran", "Hyakunen Monogatari", "Flower-bird", etc. The "Sumida Hokusai Art Museum" is a unique feature of the series of works in a single hall. Among these works are some of Morse's relatives who discovered Omori Kaizuka, and Peter Morse, who was known worldwide as a collector of Hokusai, rushed in 1993 and handed over the collection. The collection of about 600 items, including valuable works, seems to maintain the state of sliding and color well, and to convey the beauty of the time of production to the present.

Impressive design by up-and-coming architects!
The museum, which was covered with a pale mirror panel, is currently buzzing among architectural lovers as it is designed by architect Kazuyo Sejima. A building with a slit is a novel structure that you can enter from anywhere as well as look. The design concept "I can feel the spirit of Hokusai always trying new challenges" is embodied. As well as experiencing the world of Hokusai, the Sumida Hokusai Museum of Art can impress you even with architecture. It will be the afterglow of the new and old Atsumi in the heart of the visitors.

Looking at the slit-like part from the bottom, it looks like a laminated mirror.

From the first floor, take the elevator to the permanent exhibition room on the fourth floor, and you will be greeted by the projected entrance of the character of Hokusai Manga. There is also a part of the display where you can find out the connection between Hokusai and Satoshi Sumida with a touch panel monitor. The permanent exhibition rooms are: 2 "period of study", 3 "period of soma style", 4 "period of reading book", 5 "period of picture model", 6 "period of Rui picture", 7 "meat painting" It is divided into six eras, and it is possible to trace the life of Hokusai together with full-scale high-definition replicas and episodes of the representative works of each era.
