From ancient times to modern days, Hokusai loves France
The first artists in the world to appreciate the fine art of Hokusai's Ukiyo-e paintings were French artists such as the copperplate artist Blackmon.

The art style and expression of Ukiyo-e for the French at that time were very new, and artists inspired by Hokusai's "Hokusai Manga" and "The 36 Kakukei Kanagawa Onami-ura" etc. It copies, and it develops into the art movement such as Japonism and Art Nouveau.
In France, which had been modernized and chaotic, Hokusai, who brought fresh aesthetics, is a modern fashion leader and has been respected to the present day.

What taught me that was the tribute to Hokusai by artistic director, John Galliano, who was announced at the famous high brand, Dior's Spring / Summer 2007 Haute Couture collection. It is a coat that treated "Onami". The superb design seems to have revived the spirit of Hokusai's paintings.
