Jomon's "special" Venus
A clay figure found at a terraced field ruins in Chino City, Nagano Prefecture. Heart shaped face with ample eyelids, small nose and mouth. In addition, it seems that the breast and lower abdomen which protruded forward, the buttocks which extended to the left and right, and the line of the insensitive body represent a pregnant woman. From this, it is thought that wishes such as offspring prosperity and fertility were put, but we do not know that it is certain. However, while many other clay figurines were purposely broken and excavated, this statue was found in perfect condition lying in a depression at the center of the settlement. Certainly for the people of that time, it is certain that it was a special being.
