On November 22, the Sumida Hokusai Art Museum opens in Hokusai's hometown Sumida Ward. It was taken up in the news of television etc., and it became a big topic. I'm interested in the first Hokusai Museum of Art in Tokyo!
So, this report by Japanese art beginner Yu is "I went to Sumida Hokusai Art Museum!".

The Sumida Museum is about a 5-minute walk from Toei Subway Oedo Line Ryogoku Station. Since I came to a great deal, I was walking towards the museum slowly while tasting the downtown atmosphere and saying, "Hokusai had moved more than 90 times!" I heard the Hokusai Unchik story from here and there! It is a place related to Hokusai. There are a lot of Hokusai fans. While listening to such knowledge, I arrived at the entrance in no time.

Architect Kazuno Sejima who has won worldwide acclaim, including the Nobel Prize in the architecture world, and the Prizker Prize. The appearance that he did design is near-future. It was a totally different impression from the previous art museums.
The editor-in-chief, Sorama, said "I am not so crowded," as usual, frustrated, but a lot of people on weekdays! As expected Hokusai is popular.

After buying a ticket at the entrance, go up to the 4th floor by elevator and go down the stairs to see the exhibit. This museum has an exhibition room on the 4th and 3rd floors!
In any case, when you get off the elevator, the space for permanent exhibition. The first step in this permanent exhibition is the large Ema "Susanono Otokojin Ojishin Ojijinzu" which is considered to be the masterpiece of Hokusai's later years.

This is a masterpiece of the Hokusai vision of having been burned down by the Great Kanto Earthquake. From the fact that only monochrome photos remain, it is estimated by the latest technology. You can learn the secret from the video on the 4th floor observation lounge in an easy-to-understand manner as to how you could restore such a colorful thing from just one black-and-white photo. The restoration project of this painting was also featured in the program NHK's "Lost Hokusai", so there may be many who viewed it.

And it was the atelier of Hokusai reproduced realistically that had gathered the most people in the permanent exhibition. There's a trick here! I was surprised at the surprise. It will be a spoiler, so please take a look!

Currently, in addition to the permanent exhibitions, “Hokusai's return-visionary picture scrolls and signature collections-” are being held as an opening exhibition. It consists of four chapters of "Hokusai's image", "Hokusai's drawn Sumida", "Imaginary picture scroll-Sumida River and both sides view figure scroll-" and "special product highlight". You can see.
The greatest highlight of this exhibition is "Sumida River Rygashi Landscape Figura" (Sumibutariganganshi Shizukan). It was said to have been a visionary picture scroll for about 100 years, but it was rediscovered in France in 2015 and returned to Japan. Its length, which is said to be 6m or more, is much longer than expected, and there are not many magazines and nets that can see the entire 6m. It's worth a visit and a look!
