From February 5, 2019 to Sunday, April 7, 2019, the Sumida Hokusai Museum of Art held the exhibition "Hokusai Animals". Cats and dogs have been kept since the Nara period, and have been loved by generals such as Tokugawa Tsunayoshi during the Edo period. Later, petting animals was spread to the public, and painters began to make animals a subject. The animals drawn by representative artists in the Edo period, such as Ito Wakatsuki and Utagawa Kuniyoshi, are sometimes soothing with their cuteness, sometimes with a sharp edge, and have a variety of facial expressions.
