Inside Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Golden Tea Room: A Sneak Peek Into the Reconstructed Teahouse at Nagoya Castle Museum!
Until now, my only image of Hideyoshi (秀吉) ’s ‘Golden Tea Room’ was the one assembled at the imperial court in Kyoto, where he served matcha (抹茶) to the Emperor. But to my surprise, it turns out Hideyoshi also transported a Golden Tea Room to Nagoya Castle (名護屋城, in Saga Prefecture) during the dispatch of troops to Korea. At the Saga Prefectural Nagoya Castle Museum (佐賀県立名護屋城博物館), a replica of the Golden Tea Room has been reconstructed—and you can even go inside and enjoy a bowl of matcha! Naturally, I had to see it for myself.
