The “Tottori Sand Dune Sand Museum” is one of the world's museums that specializes in sand and water sculptures and sand statues. Thirty years ago, the art of sand sculpture began to enter Japan from the United States. Since that time, sand statue sculptor Katsuhiko Chaen has led this field. Since the opening of the "Art Museum of Sand", I have been supervised the works as a producer.
An exhibition of sand sculptures that began as part of the revitalization of Fukube Village, which merged with Tottori City in 2004, opens as an art museum. There is no glass case, so it is also attractive that you can watch the work in the near future.
The concept is "world travel with sand"
At the museum, the concept of “traveling with sand” is selected each year on the theme of one country or region to produce a sand statue. He exhibited sand sculptures for about 8 months from spring, and then closed for 3 months and a half for the next production. It displays the history and culture of the country, symbolic events and great nature, including the "Italian Renaissance" exhibition in the first year of the museum's opening, and displays them over time.
